1967 Gibson Non Reverse Firebird III Sparkling Burgundy

Very good condition featuring contoured mahogany Non Reverse Firebird body shape, multi-ply white and black beveled edge pickguard with red Firebird logo on the bass side, three P-90 pickups with black covers, two volume controls and two tone controls with gold reflector top knobs, three way sliding pickup selector switch, output jack mounted to the top treble side of the body, short Gibson GV19 vibrola tailpiece, “lightning bolt” wraparound bridge (or tailpiece), set mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Gibson Non Reverse peghead shape, single ply black plastic truss rod cover with Gibson logo, six in a line double line Kluson Deluxe tuners with white plastic oval shaped tuner buttons, serial number impressed into the back of the peghead, single ply black plastic electronics control cavity cover plate, three strap buttons, chrome plated metal hardware, Sparkling Burgundy finish and original rectangular Gibson hard shell case with black covering and orange plush interior. This guitar weighs 8lb even.

This 1967 Gibson Firebird III is in very good vintage cosmetic condition. This instrument shows signs of play wear and age throughout (see photos) including finish checking, finish fading, pickguard shrinkage, pickguard chipping on the corners, a few small dings throughout the body, wear on the back and sides of the neck and tarnishing of the chrome metal hardware. The original tuners have been replaced with a set of vintage Kluson Deluxe units (no extra holes) and the sliding pickup selector switch was replaced with a new one (the original is in the case). Other than those two changes, this Custom Color Firebird III is all original. This instrument has no breaks or crack repairs and the finish blacklights perfectly. The electronics are clean and original - there are visible potentiometer codes that date to the 26th week of 1966. All three original P-90 pickups are present and have strong output. The neck is in great playing condition and the truss rod is fully functional. This Firebird has a very good feeling medium, rounded neck profile with a 1 9/16” nut width. The original fret wire is in good shape and the guitar plays fantastic up and down the rosewood fingerboard with low smooth action and very good intonation. This guitar is very easy and very fun to play. The vibrato tailpiece functions well and the guitar stays in tune very nicely. This Firebird III sounds outstanding and has a very open, biting tone with plenty of woody goodness that excels with a fairly overdriven amplifier and rings clear and articulate with clean tones. This guitar is housed in its original rectangular Gibson hardshell case that is also in very good condition with all the latches working and an intact handle.
