Description

Summary: The Gibson RD series launched in the late '70s. These guitars and basses each featured a longer scale than other Gibsons, innovative active electronics (developed by Moog), and a unique offset body style. The RD Artist was the top-of-the-line RD guitar and featured styling similar to the Les Paul Custom. This particular Gibson has aged wonderfully.

Body: Offset double cutaway, 3-piece maple body.

Neck: 3-piece maple neck with an ebony fingerboard, block pearloid inlays, 22 frets, original tuning keys.

Pickups/Hardware: This vintage Gibson has the original Moog circuitry with active electronics. The “RD” actually stands for “Research & Development”. This guitar has 2 humbucker pickups, 3-way toggle switch for the pickups, 3-way toggle switch for the Moog electronics system, original tuning keys, block inlays, pearloid headstock inlay. The electronics have been sprayed out & tested and they sound pretty awesome....There is still some noise in the electronics in the toggle switches but overall its fully working.

Cosmetics: This instrument shows normal wear associated with a vintage guitar from 1977 – there are some dings & nicks on the body – the binding around the headstock has aged beautifully. There is one big spot on the top of the guitar above the bridge pickup that looks like the wood chipped off and was glued back on but overall the natural beauty of this guitar overshadows any imperfections.

Playability: We set this guitar up with a new set of 10’s and adjusted the neck to make sure the action was comfortable. The instrument plays great up & down the neck. The frets are in good shape and have a lot of life left in them.

Modifications: N/A

Weight: 9 lbs, 4 oz.

Case: This vintage Gibson ships with the original hardshell case.
