This guitar is a project that Josh Grove from Protocaster Guitars undertook recently. Besides making Protocasters, Josh is a well known for his period correct aged nitrocellulose finishing, restoration of vintage instruments and Les Paul and newer Gibson Makeovers.
This was a fun project, it started as a 2007 Gibson SG Faded, Josh pulled the frets, routed the body and headstock for binding, installed the split diamond inlay on the headstock, refinished it in aged black 100% non-catylized nitrocellulose laquer, although the tailpiece is a sideways vibrola it is bolted down to act as a stop tailpiece, that tailpiece just looks so cool but is not particularly functional, can always be made to function as a vibrola again.
We at MCG are the exclusive dealer of Protocaster Guitars and Protocaster Makeovers, and we love doing the cool and fun guitar projects with Josh. This is a very cool looking and great sounding guitar!!! We love doing these projects with Josh and the results are these really cool guitars that are a fraction of the price that a real vintage or new one would cost!!!!
