Description

Summary: Like the Les Paul Junior before it, the SG Junior was a simple version of the SG introduced as a student-level guitar in 1961. The SG Junior used a single P-90 pickup and single-piece bridge/tailpiece.

Body: Dual cutaway mahogany solid body electric guitar.

Neck: Mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. This guitar has 22 frets and dot inlay markers on the fingerboard. This SG has been re-fretted with jumbo frets. The first fret has a few divets showing around the high E string & the B string but the frets are still in pretty good shape and have lots of life left. The divets do not cause any tuning issues. The nut width is 1 11/16” and the scale length is 24 ½”.

Pickups/Hardware: Original single P-90 pickup, 1 volume knob & 1 tone knob. This guitar has the vintage 3 in a line Kluson Deluxe tuning keys. The bridge on this guitar is a non-original adjustable bridge.

Cosmetics: Overall this SG is in great shape but it does show normal wear and tear consistent with a vintage guitar from the 1960’s. There is lots of wear around the edges of the headstock. There is some checking on the back of the headstock and there is also a small crack that has developed directly at the bottom of the Low E string (likely from someone overtightening the tuners screw). This crack has been inspected by our in-house luthier & it is structurally sound. The checking on this guitar is awesome – when you get this guitar in your hands you can see checking all over the guitar and it looks great. The pickguard is cracked next to one screw and there is a small piece of the pickguard missing near the bottom point of the SG. There are a few small dings on the top and lots of visible wear around the input jack.

Mods & Repairs: One small fracture on the back of the headstock below the Low E string (probably from over-tightening the Kluson tuning keys) This crack is structurally sound & doesn’t affect tuning or playing.

Playability: This instrument plays great! The action is low & the guitar plays with no buzz & no dead spots. The neck is straight and it feels nice to play.

Weight: 5 lbs, 9 oz.

Case: Vintage Chipboard case
