Description

This is a collector grade very early 1961 SG/Les Paul. There are lots of SG's out there. It was a popular guitar and with good reason. Light weight, great pickups, cool looks and relatively inexpensive for its era. But they are fragile. They changed the neck join design five different times. Maybe six. The neck is not generally very stable so it moves easily causing stress cracks in the cutaways. More than half of the SG's out there for sale have had the neck reglued. I recall getting one years ago and removing the strap button for some reason and the neck literally fell off the guitar. Not this one. This very early (4 digit serial) SG/LP has no stress cracks, no reglue, no issues of any kind. With prices getting up into the stratosphere, you shouldn't have to pay top dollar for a guitar with serious structural issues. This guitar has no issues of any kind unless you count some fade to the finish. Condition is 9 to 9+. Sealed PAFs, untouched solder on the pots, original everything including the frets. It has the early "long guard (which you didn't even know existed) where the guard nearly reaches the poker chip. There is a small chip in the guard. The bevel is very wide on these early ones and more than a few of them have the same chip. The neck is very wide and relatively slim-typical 61 SG neck. The case is the very rare brown Gibson badged version. This is the finest SG on the market right now. The last two photos are natural light.
