Description

Summary: The SG Special evolved out of the Les Paul Special in the early '60s when Gibson introduced the SG as its primary solidbody shape. The Special was conceived as a more affordable, parred-down take on the SG Standard. From 1972 till 1978, the Special used mini-humbuckers instead of P-90s.

Body: One piece solid mahogany body. Dual cutaway mahogany body with beveled upper edge. Walnut finish.

Neck: Three piece mahogany slim profile neck with volute. Unbound rosewood fretboard with small block inlays. Pearl crown style headstock inlay. The scale length on this instrument is 24.75” and the nut width is 1 11/16”.

Pickups/Hardware: Two original mini-humbucking pickups. Chromed hardware. Two tone, two volume controls with black speed knobs and a 3-way switch.

Cosmetics: This guitar is in great playing condition – there are some dings & nicks on this guitar, one in particular is on the upper bout above the bridge pickup. There is some pick scratching on the front & some buckle rash on the back but all the wear is consistent with a well-played & loved instrument from the 1970’s.

Playability: This guitar plays great – the action is low & the guitar plays with no buzzing or dead spots. The frets have been replaced and they are in good shape with lots of life left in them.

Weight: 6 lbs, 8 oz.

Case: Original hard shell case.
