An Exceptional Forty-Seven Year Old Gibson SG Standard
1971 Gibson SG Standard
This 13-inch-wide SG Standard weighs 7.90 lbs. and features a 1 1/3 inch thick solid mahogany body with beveled edges. Three-piece mahogany neck with a narrow nut width of just under 1 9/16 inches, a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches, and a very comfortable thin-to-medium profile. Small volute which cannot be felt at the nut position. Indian rosewood fretboard with 22 original jumbo frets and inlaid pearl trapezoid markers. Headstock with inlaid pearl "Gibson" logo and pearl crown inlay. Individual Gibson 'Kluson' two-line Deluxe tuners with double-ring Keystone plastic buttons stamped on the underside "D-169400/Patent No." Back of headstock stamped with serial number "964046" and "Made in USA". Two hot "Patent Number" humbucker pickups with rectangular black stickers "Patent No./2,737,842" on the underside and outputs of 7.41k and 7.58k. The potentiometers are dated 1377101 (January 1971). Five-layer black over white plastic double pickguard with eleven screws. Four controls (two volume, two tone) plus three-way pickup selector switch. Black plastic ribbed-side conical-shaped "Witch Hat" knobs. Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge with nylon bridge saddles and Gibson Maestro Vibrola tailpiece. There is a small crack on the edge and back of the body just below the jack input, but this is superficial and not structural. Apart from some minimal belt buckle wear on the back, a few small marks on the edges and the back of the neck, this guitar is in excellent plus (8.75) condition with no finish checking almost no fading to the rich cherry color. Housed in its original Gibson three-latch, rectangular black hardshell case with purple plush lining (9.00). A great opportunity to own a forty-seven-year-old SG Standard that sounds absolutely amazing. (#2082)
