This 1971 Gibson SG Standard is in good vintage cosmetic condition showing multiple signs of play wear throughout including scratches, dings, nicks and finish checking. This gnarly SG has been through some things in its 51 years of existence including a peghead break that has been professionally repaired and is super solid. The tuners are replacement Schaller units and the holes from the previous tuners remain. The body was slightly routed to accommodate a different pickup set and the guard was also altered. The white plastic pickups rings were added and the body has been drilled (unprofessionally) for a stop tailpiece. The original and very clean PAT# sticker humbucking pickups have been professionally reinstalled (the covers are intact and do not appear to have ever been removed). The wiring harness is also original and there is a pot code visible that reads 1377114 which indicates that this component was made by CTS on the 14th week of 1971. The neck profile on this SG is extremely comfortable with a medium chunky rounded profile and a 1 9/16” nut width. This neck feels dynamite and like an old glove. The original frets are low and have been dressed a time or two but this guitar plays outstanding up and down the the fingerboard with low action and good intonation. This guitar is just a killer player with a really “lived in” feel. The original T-Tops sound phenomenal and have a very woody and articulate bite that sounds righteous through a dirty tube amplifier. This Gibson is housed in a later (1990s) Gibson hard shell case that fits superbly. This guitar may not be 100% original and definitely hasn’t been kept under the bed so if you're looking one of those, then this certainly isn’t it. However, if you are looking for an absolutely killer playing and sounding 51 year old Gibson SG Standard that has seen some things and has the battle scars and vibe to prove it, then this thing may be right up your alley. A true Rock Machine. Shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
