1953 Gibson SJ Southern Jumbo w/OHSC

Look this good at 70? Most of us won't. Sound this good? Most of us won't either. This old SJ has had a few back crack repairs and has had the tuners replaced along with the bridge pins but the rest of the guitar is original. The serial number is Y6322 33. The top and sides are crack free. The original finish is crazed throughout and shows typical small dings and scrapes from decades of use but not abuse. The neck finish is heavily crazed with a little bit of finish missing from the back of the neck likely from capo use but no wear to the wood. The fret board is in very good shape, the frets show minor wear in the first position but nothing that requires immediate intervention. The neck is straight under tension and the truss rod functions properly. The original pickguard is flat, the bridge is tight and secure to the top. Inside all of the original bracing is present and secure. There are some supports that were added to reinforce the back crack repairs when they were done at some time past. The crack repairs are well done, tight, level and stable. The neck angle is good, having been reset at Kovacik Guitars & Fretted Instrument Repair a few years back prior to the last sale of the guitar (2018). The guitar had a LR Baggs Anthem (microphone) pickup installed at one time, that pickup has been removed and a conversion end pin installed in the tail block. The pickup is included with the sale should the new owner wish to use it in this or some other guitar. The action is set comfortably for flat picking with good saddle height, the guitar plays buzz free and the intonation is very good. Great tone, typical Gibson whomp on the bottom end and volume/projection to spare. The original case is pictured, while it is intact the seam around the bottom is coming loose as is a seam up at the headstock end. The hinges, latches and handle are all intact/present/functional. The original case is sufficient to protect the guitar for light around-the-house use but for travel it should either be repaired or replaced. As such the buyer will have the choice of taking the original case in its current condition or a replacement modern used case with the purchase. $6850
