Description

In the years preceding the wide use of the electric guitar, the big three guitar makers were competing to see who could make the biggest (and loudest) guitar of all. It isn't the three you think either. It was Gibson, Epiphone and Stromberg. The Super 400 was Gibson's big dog in the fight at 18" across the lower bout. It's a big guitar and it's pretty loud. This one is from 1940 and shows moderate player wear but is, over all, in very nice condition. No cracks, very little checking and no major issues. Like nearly all old Gibson archtops, it shows a slight upward rise where the neck meets the body. It is not causing any playability problems. The original guard is still intact and shows only very slight off gassing and some upward warp. The leather covered original case is showing some deterioration but, c'mon, it's 80 year old leather. Most of these lost their original cases decades ago.
