Description

Summary: In 1934 Gibson introduced the Super 400 as it’s top of the line acoustic archtop guitar. This instrument was one of the last Super 400 guitars with the venetian cutaway and the 3 piece (maple / mahogany / maple) neck. This instrument is 18” wide with a spruce top and figured maple back and sides. This guitar has 7 ply top biding with triple bound back and f-holes. This instrument has the original brown pearloid pickguard with 5 ply binding, 5 ply peghead binding, 5 piece split-diamond peghead inlay, 3 piece split-diamond inlay on the back of the head and metal gold tuning keys.

Body: Hollowbody with a spruce top and figured maple back and sides.

Neck: Fully bound flame 3 piece neck (maple / mahogany / maple) with an ebony fretboard. Slashed-block and split-diamond pearloid inlays. Nut width is 1 11/16” - The scale length is 25.5”.

Pickups/Hardware: 1 DeArmond pickup with one volume knob – this guitar has an 1/8” input jack and the original cable is included.

Cosmetics: This vintage beauty does show lots of scuffing and scratches from being played over the years but the wear is consistent with an instrument from 1959. The binding has aged really well and it remains in good condition although there are a few small spots where it has rubbed off and there are a few cracks in the binding. The top of this guitar has a few minor dings and scuffing but overall it is in very good shape. The back of the guitar has a beautiful flame maple with lots of character – there are buckle scratches and some scuffing but no structural damage!

Playability: This jazz box plays with ease and sounds like the vintage tone machine that it is. All the jazz players that have come into the shop to try it out really loved it.
Mods/Repairs: none

Weight: 7 lbs, 8 oz.

Case: Original hardshell case.
