Early 1963 (Serial # 61838), purchased from the son of the original owner, Frankie Cal (Calgiuri) - see promo pic. This one really stands out from the others with its gorgeous Cherry Sunburst finish vs the typical drab Viceroy Brown (light-brown sunburst).

Nicely flamed top, back, sides, and back of the neck, Stinger headstock, 2 PAF pickups, rounded Venetian cutaway, single-bound F-holes and scroll inlay in cutaway horn, double crown motif on headstock, tune-0-matic bridge with rosewood base, fancy shell-like pickguard, trapeze tailpiece with rosewood insert with Tal Farlow pearl-inlaid nameplate, Kluson Super tuners with keystone metal buttons, original brown Lifton case (they probably had some larger Brown cases which fit the jazz boxes leftover pre-1961, I have seen several like these). Also has the last of the nickel ABR-1 bridges (with correct foundry mark) before they switched over to nylon saddles around this period.

The guitar is in really beautiful condition, with very minor checking, as seen in the photos. There are some light scratches on the body and a few minor blems (see pics). There are some minor grooves in the fretboard. The guitar was played but obviously very well taken care of. The only change is the nickel pickup covers were replaced with chrome covers, as according to the son, his dad was obsessed with keeping the guitar looking as new as possible. The neck is a perfect feeling medium profile, minimal fret wear, probably due to the use of flatwounds.

This is an extremely fine example of the Gibson Tal Farlow. Gibson only produced this model for a limited period from1962-67. There were only 82 produced during the Gibson Golden Era (pre-1965). This is one of only 39 made in 1963!
