Here we have a highly desirable and extremely rare Gibson Mastertone conversion, with a 40-hole cast tone ring. This banjo was the top of the line when it was crafted, with a neck and resonator of black walnut, trimmed in green stained holly and maple, as well as green pearloid trim, displaying the highest quality employed by Gibson craftsmen. The arch-top tone ring produces that crisp tone that has been the hallmark of players like Ralph Stanley and Doug Dillard.
Although originally a tenor, an extremely talented luthier created a five-string neck that perfectly matches what would have been a Gibson produced five string neck of the era, included the hard to replicate green colored binding. This instrument is in excellent condition throughout, with the original gold plating and engraving in terrific condition, including the rarely included “Deluxe” engraved tailpiece.
$9,500.00 with recent hard case included.
