Offered for sale:

Vintage c1961 Gibson TG-0 Tenor Guitar in natural mahogany serial number 31393.

This guitar is in very good condition, neck angle and frets are fine. Cosmetically showing a variety of nicks and marks, and playing wear, there are two cracks on the back that have been professionally repaired.

This guitar was donated to Hungry For Music, an organization that gets instruments into the hands of underprivileged kids. When they get pro guitars, we sell them and buy student guitars for Hungry For Music to distribute to kids around the country and the world.

Gibson produced the TG-0 tenor guitar during two distinct time periods and in two different forms. However, it has always been a relatively simple Mahogany top 4-string acoustic. The initial run of the TG-0 was based on the L-0 from 1927 to 1933, the second run was based on the LG-0 from 1960 to 1974.

This Gibson TG-0 dating to 1961, was produced at the Kalamazoo plant. These guitars feature a Mahogany back and sides with Spruce bracing, and a Mahogany neck with Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. The bridge is Rosewood, the head plate has a simple black finish with a gold Gibson decal logo. Position markers are Mother of Pearl dots. The pickguard was fixed to the top with three small screws rather than glue. The finish is a light, originally gloss, clear nitrocellulose lacquer.

Nick Reynolds used a Martin tenor guitar with the Kingston Trio, and Celtic music ensembles often include tenor guitars. More recently, tenor guitars have been used by Elvis Costello, Nico Case and Ani Difranco.

Tenor guitars have a particularly unique tone that is different from a regular guitar, the tone blends nicely with other instruments including mandolin and banjo.

Original chipboard case is included; however, it does have a damaged inner flap. Original Gibson brochure also included.

“We carefully inspect every instrument when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. We also do a full set up before we ship.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
