very special...1968 Gibson Trini Lopez Custom in CHERRY SUNBURST FINISH in very cool-funky-modified-unique condition, with original hardshell case, serial number 508xxx. Lots of guitars are described as 'vibey' - but this Trini has it in spades. It's hard to describe how this Trini looks, feels, and sounds - but it is as though a very classy top-end jazz box went to work on a horse ranch, and came away from the experience with a great 'broken-in' feel to it, and somewhat 'branded' at the same time. This is a Trini that is meant to rock, no matter what the specific application. Firstly, we have many more photos - so just ask - and we'll pass them on. At some point, many many years ago - an early owner had this Trini's top engraved. She has been engraved on both cutaways, as you see in the photos - as well as down by the Bigsby. The 'Indian Head' engraving was done with a great deal of respect, that much is obvious. In addition, the original hard case may have been painted black - and the same owner added silver studs to the exterior of the case; PERFECT. A nickel Bigsby was added also, and this really gives the player the opportunity to create some great, moody, and atmospheric sounds. Other changes/mods: she also has some really good Schaller tuners; small screw holes are present from the original tuners. This Trini also has a great pair of Seymour Duncan ANTIQUITY Nickel covered humbuckers - GREAT sounding, NOT overwound. These produce some lovely clean sounds, as well as thick overdriven tones. Condition-wise, she is in overall good shape considering her age and travels. There is a lot of finish checking, lots of scratches and dinks, finish wear to the back of the neck, an extra screw hole on the butt end near the Bigsby, an extra little screw hole on the neck heel, and the bridge has likely been modded - but she plays great, action is low and comfortable. The pickup rings and knobs are older, but likely not original. There is a repaired crack right on the neck heel - see photo - but she is rock solid and repaired. There is a worn area on the side of the guitar's top cutaway that is through the finish - but all this wear and tear is from actual USE and PLAY. She has been broken-in. She looks to have been through a good refret - and there is plenty of life left in these - very comfortable to play, easy string bending. Again - lots of finish checking - and it's all REAL - no custom shop could come up with a result like this, try as they may. This is the kind of wear that comes from human use and actual play. This Trini is NOT for those looking for a clean, minty collector example. This one is for the PLAYER who is looking for an old friend to write, record, gig, and CREATE with.
