In the 70's he designed a prototype guitar that eventually became the Steinberger M Series, and because of this guitar, Roger was offered a job to run Gibson's West Coast Custom Shop in LA. In the early '90s, Roger was selected to make a replica of Jimmy Page's #1 1958 Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Standard. He ran Gibson's West Coast Custom Shop until December '93, when Gibson moved the operation to Nashville. He then moved to Portland, Oregon, set up shop, and has been there ever since. Roger Giffin is among a handful of guitar builders that deserve the title, Master Builder.
