Description

Those who follow my website with any regularity may have noticed my affinity for hollow and semi-hollow electrics. I love the light weight and airy tone of these designs and tend to stock them often. Offered here is a particularly special semi-hollow guitar, a Lyra Floating Top built by the incomparable Gil Yaron in 2019.

The Lyra Floating Top is the size of a Les Paul but has an arched top, "cat eye" f-holes and double cutaways for easy upper fret access. Gil takes a very light weight Cuban mahogany back and pairs it with a "floating" flame maple top which are attached only at the perimeter and in the area between the neck joint and the bridge. The result is an instrument that is very light in weight (this one weighs just 6.2 pounds) but still quite resistant to feedback. It has an old-growth mahogany neck with a rounded Les Paul style carve and depth measurements of .855" at the first fret increasing to .953" at the twelfth fret. It has a very dark rosewood fingerboard with jumbo frets and a 1.695" nut width. The electronics and control setup are very LP-like as well and the guitar has Gil's own PAF style pickups wound specifically for his Lyra models. It is finished in a tobacco burst nitro lacquer with the top in gloss and the back, sides and neck in a very thin satin.

If you have ever been fortunate enough to play a Yaron-built guitar, then you will be familiar with the incredible quality that Gil somehow manages to imbue his guitars with. This guitar feels rock solid in it's construction and plays with a precision that only the very finest electrics are capable of. It sounds very much like a 335 to my ears, despite being a smaller bodied instrument. Please check out the brief sound sample provided below, as well as the included video of Pete Thorn demonstrating early examples of this model.

This guitar is in near mint condition with only the lightest evidence of prior play and no flaws of any significance. The frets are like new. It comes in it's original molded TSA case. A new example would cost you close to $10K, but this lightly played 2019 example can be yours for substantially less.

This is easily one of the finest semi-hollow electrics that money can buy. Make this rare and incredible Yaron Lyra yours today! Note: Consigned - no trades.
