It is a special occasion in this business when a private collection comes to light and such was the case at this past Nashville Guitar show. A gentleman who had been collecting G&L guitars since the '80s decided to pass his collection along and Lee and I were in the right place at the right time. I will personally attest that the time spent with this man and his sweet wife was more than enjoyable. Both are great folks!

This '88 ASAT Special was just one of the pieces we acquired and is indicative of the entire lot. None of the guitars show any signs of playwear and it was relayed to us that they mostly sat in their cases until it was time to pull one out, "give it a spin for a while" and then gently put it back up. That, I believe to be the truth considering the condition of the guitars and the cases. Speaking of cases, this one still has the green protective plastic on the latches, some 35 years later!

The chrome hardware is shiny and clean, as is the white enameled aluminum pickguard. The finish is unmarred and Leo's signature is clear and crisp. If Reverb would insert the term "near mint" into their choices, it would be used here. Both pots date to the 31st week of 1988 and we were the first to turn a screw on this guitar. The weight is 7 lbs, 13 oz. The neck and fretboard are clean, with no visible signs of wear. Both MFD pickups are bold and articulate- some guitar guys are going to disagree with me, but if you had me choose between a Fender Tele and this ASAT, it's going to be this one every time.

The package is complete with tags, paperwork, and tools. If you are a fan of these '80s G&Ls and are considering an ASAT for your collection then this is the obvious choice. The proper passing of a guitar from one who loves them to another is always the process that's most important to us, so please call or email with any questions and as always, we thank you for stopping by!
