Goldtone Guitars was founded in 2008 in San Francisco, CA after 25+ years doing guitar repairs, mods, and playing in bands. Several of our customers started asking us about making custom guitars, and that seemed like a natural extension of the business we had been doing. So, Goldtone was born, and we were off to the races.

Through 2018, our builds were done in partnership with esteemed Luthier, Gary Brawer. Gary was a great mentor with a vast history and knowledge of all things stringed. Our focus was on utilizing the highest quality materials, finishes and components possible, and making some exceptional quality instruments. In the early years, all of our guitars were 100% custom builds, spec’d by our growing list of professional guitar and bass players around the world.

In 2019, we expanded our operations to Olympia, WA where we’re now building 30-40 custom guitars per year. We are continuously expanding to meet the needs of our growing customer base, but our growth is organic and never forced. While we continue to grow, the focus remains on quality first. Attention to detail is everything, and we want you to experience that in every guitar we build.

Achieve era-authentic ’50s tone with our Real ’54s. This pickup’s output and magnet structure is the same magnet material Fender™ used in their ‘54 Stratocasters! If you’re looking for a glassy, articulate tone, our Real ’54s will certainly provide that for you. Our Real 54’s are brighter and snappier than our Vintage Hot pickups. If you are looking for the most authentic vintage Strat tone you can get, look no further.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and we try to represent the condition of all used and vintage guitars as accurately as possible in our listings. Every used guitar shows some signs of play wear and vintage models even more so. We call out all areas of damage or unusual wear, and describe the overall condition based upon what is "normal" for the age of the instrument. Expect to see minor dings, finish checking, or other evidence of normal use and aging which may not be captured by photography or explicitly mentioned in the listing.

We recognize that everyone has their own personal standard of what constitutes acceptable wear and tear. If play wear is especially critical for you, please contact us at the Shop for a complete in-hand description and to answer any questions you may have. Your satisfaction is of paramount importance to us.
