Description

Offered here is an absolutely magnificent acoustic, a Macassar Ebony and Redwood Grand Concert Cutaway built by James Goodall in 2017.

This EGCC is a 14-fret, 25.5" scale guitar with a Venetian cutaway. The body is 19.5" long, 15" wide at the lower bout and 4-1/4" deep. This particular instrument has a master grade Redwood top matched with a spectacular set of AAA-grade Macassar Ebony for the back and sides. It has Curly Maple binding, Maple and Ebony purflings and an Abalone rosette. It has a Mahogany neck with a depth of .850" at the first fret and .900" at the twelfth. The fretboard is Ebony with a 16" radius, MOP inlays and a 1.75" bone nut. It has an Ebony bridge with 2-5/16" string spacing. The tuners are gold Gotoh 510's with Ebony buttons. It is factory-equipped with a clear pickguard.

The Grand Concert is one of my favorite body sizes. It is large enough to have lots of presence while also being small enough to be extremely comfortable to play. The addition of a cutaway for easier upper fret access is just icing on the cake.

Overtones are plentiful from this guitar, even though it has not fully opened up. The warm overtones of the relatively soft Redwood top match well with the clarity of the hard Ebony and the result i s an extremely well balanced instrument. Please check out the brief sound sample provided, keeping in mind that this barely played instrument still has some opening up to do. This magnificent guitar plays as good as it looks and sounds, with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side with just the right amount of neck relief. As recommended by the builder, it is setup with light gauge Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings.

Completed in mid-2017, this fabulous instrument has seen little play. The only flaws of any significance are a couple of string change scratches on the Ebony headstock overlay and even these are few and very hard to find. The frets are spotless. I find no other flaws of any significance. It comes in it's original Ameritage Humidifier case along with the original certificate and accessories. This guitar could likely pass for new.

A new example with these tonewoods and optipons would cost approximately $10K. Get this barely played 2017 example for thousands less. Make this exceptional Goodall acoustic yours today. Magnificent!
