Description
Up for sale, a 1960s Goya Rangemaster model 116 SB in excellent, 100% original condition and in good working order. These lovely Italian offset guitars were purportedly produced in the Galanti factory and feature Z coil pickups with ingenious switching that allows you to select individual coils in tandem from both the neck and bridge pickups! Conveniently numbered 1-4, this Goya provides a stunning range of useable and dynamic tones via the push button switches on the bass side upper bout of the instrument. Combined with three tone switches and a master volume control, this Goya is the ultimate in 1960s Italian guitar kitsch and an instrument for the serious player as well. Everything from thinned out hollow twang to meaty, midrange rich rhythm heaven is accessible via the pickup switches, and this guitar excels in truly providing significant tonal variations "at the push of a button." The instrument has a surprisingly full acoustic voice as well, with a resonant body and a weight of 7lbs 11oz. Professionally setup with comfortable, low action and fresh strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Goya is a clean and complete example of the rare Rangemaster model.

The maple neck has a slim C profile with Brazilian rosewood fretboard and offset dot inlays. The original frets are in exceptional shape, showing only light wear beneath the G and B strings down near the nut, with virtually no wear up the neck and proper intonation. On the exceedingly large headstock, the original tuners with lollipop buttons are intact, turn smoothly, and have clean chrome plating. The "Goya Rangemaster" logo is completely intact and mint, and we simply can't get over how much we love this giant, melty gumbi-esque headstock shape! The headstock shows evidence of a different tuner set being installed at some point, but the original gears are now back on the guitar, with only a tiny extra set of mounting holes just inset from the current tuners.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, including every selection made with the push buttons. The pickguard has a three-dimensional woodgrain quality while actually having a purple tint not unlike a vintage Ludwig tiger stripe drum wrap. It's a very cool look that contrasts well with the red sunburst on the body. The hardware is in great shape with the exception of some rust on the vibrato arm, which still does it's job well. The vibrato is very responsive, smooth and easy to use, with adjustable tension and the ability to jump back to its original pitch well.

Cosmetically, this is a very clean and original instrument, and the finish is vibrant and unfaded. There are a few scattered tiny nicks and scuffs on the body from honest use, in addition to a few larger finish chips near the belly contour on the bass side of the body and along the top edge of the bass side horn. The small plastic chrome cap is also missing from the "Med" tone button, but this is minor wear to say the least!

Don't miss out on this 100% original Goya Rangemaster, professionally setup, and ready to be played!
