Description

Excellent 1955 Gretsch Convertible 6199 in original Bamboo Yellow with Copper Mist back. These were later known as the 'Sal Salvador.' The guitar appears to be all original besides the strap buttons. It's in very clean condition overall with only a few dings as shown. The binding is in beautiful condition. Only one small piece of the binding repaired on the side of the neck joint. The pickguard had a piece that was repaired but is holding up nicely. Very little checking and quite nice finish with very little to no fading. The guitar plays nicely with low action. The guitar comes with the original Gretsch hardshell case.

In the gaudy Gretsch world of Cadillac green Country Clubs and cows-and-cactus Chet Atkins models, the Convertible was an island of elegance. The creamy "lotus ivory" top is accented with a gold-plated tailpiece and a sleek pickguard that goes with the "copper mist" finish on the back, sides and the back of the neck.

Model 6199, as Gretsch catalogued it, was not really convertible from acoustic to electric. Although the DeArmond pickup is mounted onto the top (rather than cut through), it is screwed down. But you can still play it acoustically or electrically. It's guaranteed to make you look better, whether you're playing it or just holding it. Very interesting and cool piece of Gretsch history!
