Description

This 1966 Gretsch Cat’s Eye (6117) may very well be one of a kind! This model is essentially a 6117 Double Anniversary with reworked F holes. They were explicitly made for Sam Ash Music stores from 1964-1968, with production numbers reported at under 200 pieces. While this model was only available in Red or Black, we have happened upon this original example in a beautiful Ice Blue metallic color. This is the only example we have seen in this color. The finish on this guitar has faded slightly over the years, making it look silver on the front but still retaining that blue hue on the back. Along with this fading, it is clear that this guitar was hanging or displayed somewhere where it came into contact with UV light. There are permanent “shadows” present in the finish on the front of this body, from its knobs, switch, strings, etc. This model features two Hilo’Tron pickups and a traditional (but unusual for Gretsch) 2 volume/2 tone control layout with a pickup selector on the lower horn. It is complete with a G tailpiece and a Space Control bridge, adding to this piece’s beautiful look and functionality. This is undoubtedly a beautiful, rare guitar with a great, versatile sound. The guitar feels amazing in hand, and each note has great articulation, whether unplugged or amped-up! Stop in and play it sometime!

Overall Condition: 8, fading to finish on the front and slight “shadows,” some light wear, weather checking, and patina
