Up for sale, a 1961 Gretsch 6117 Double Anniversary in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Aside from a new pickguard custom made to vintage specs, this guitar is 100% original! Fully hollow and featuring an early pair of Gretsch's Hilo'Tron single coil pickups, this guitar balances snap, twang, and jangle with the smooth attack and warmth of the maple body construction. The light bracing inside the body gives the instrument a lively, crisp acoustic tone, which translates well through the pickups, delivering a clarity and midrange character that sounds distinctly "Gretsch." The guitar weighs in at a featherweight 6lbs 12oz. We've professionally setup this Double Anniversary here at our shop, Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and the instrument has been dialed in with low action and fresh 11-50 strings.

The neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the slender side of things while still feeling substantial. The original fretwire is intact, showing faint wear beneath the plain strings in the "cowboy chord" area, and virtually no wear further up the neck. The frets have well rounded crowns and play cleanly in all registers with no buzzing or dead spots. The nut has a full 1 11/16" width, perfect for easy chording and accurate lead lines without feeling cramped. On the headstock, the original nickel open-back tuning machines are intact, and turn very smoothly, holding pitch as they should. The original "Anniversary" chrome badge is still present on the face of the headstock, along with the Gretsch logo inlaid in pearloid.

All of the original electronics are intact, with the Hilo'Trons wired to individual Volume controls on the treble side lower bout and a Master Volume on the treble side body horn. A three-way tone switch (bypassed in the middle) and three-way pickup selector switch round out the controls, and the tone switch engages some dark and thick sounding tone caps that really punch up the tone of the single coil pickups. The stock chrome hardware is in fantastic shape, with a clean "G" trapeze tailpiece, original knobs, and stock "Space Control" bridge that allows you to adjust the string spacing on the fly if desired. The silkscreening on the pickup covers is almost completely intact and a testament to the very light use this guitar has seen over the decades, as this silkscreening is quite slight and has worn away on the vast majority of vintage examples. The pickguard is a brand new, custom made replacement courtesy of Pickguardian, and this guard was made for this exact instrument, given Gretsch's inconsistent pickup placement in this era. Visible through the oversized F holes, the original Gretsch paper label is intact.

Cosmetically, this Gretsch boasts a vibrant and 100% original three-tone sunburst finish. Perhaps most importantly, the binding is completely original and intact, with zero binding rot and a light cream color that has only faintly aged over the decades. There is some moderate finish flaking on the lower bout back edge of the body near the rear strap button, and a few tiny nicks on the body and top headstock edge, but overall this is a remarkably clean and well kept vintage instrument.

The original hardshell case is included.
