Description

I've long been a fan of the work of Don Grosh, but I haven't had any of his guitars in stock in quite a while. Recently, however, I acquired two superb "older" Grosh guitars for our inventory. Offered here is an early Grosh Retro Classic S built back in 2001.

This model was the Grosh Strat-style guitar for many years. This beautiful example has an Alder body and a Maple neck with a total weight of just 7.5 pounds. It has an Olympic White nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The neck shape is Don's most popular, a Medium/Large C with depth measurements of .850" at the 1st fret increasing to .950" at the 12th fret. This rare example has a lovely dark Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with a 12" radius, 1-11/16" bone nut and 6105 fret wire. It has a Strat-style trem bridge and locking vintage style tuners. The electronics consist of three Lindy Fralin single coils along with a traditional Strat control setup of VTT and a five-way switch.

The build quality on Grosh guitars is right up there with the instruments from Suhr, Collings and of course, the Fender Custom Shop. The quality of the materials used is exemplary and Don builds them one at a time. This guitar feels and plays like a far more expensive Strat-style instrument and the Brazilian fretboard is just icing on the cake. The tone is classic Strat quack - listen to the provided sound sample and I trust you will agree.

While built 16 years ago, this beauty is in excellent minus condition. The only flaws of any significance are a tiny impression near the pickguard (see photo) and a bit of hard to see light yellowing of the white nitro finish around the edges of the body. The frets are in excellent shape with lots of life remaining. It comes in it's original G&G case (which shows a few scuffs) along with the trem arm and some paperwork.

If you are a fan of high quality Strat-style guitars, particularly those with Brazilian Rosewood fretboards (and who isn't), get yourself this well-preserved Grosh S. A lot of guitar for the money!
