Retrofret Stock # 8312. Guild M-75 Aristocrat Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1956), Hoboken, NJ, serial # 3589. Overall length is 39 1/4 in. (99.7 cm.), 13 3/4 in. (34.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 3/16 in. (5.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Overall this is one of the nicer examples of this fairly rare model we have seen. The instrument has some general wear but retains all original finish and hardware with just some maintenance repairs over the years. The binding -- which is often deteriorating badly on 1950s Guilds -- looks to have been expertly redone some time ago, and it was also refretted with original style wire. Everything on the guitar looks very period correct, but the instrument plays better than most. There is light average wear overall with some small dings and scrapes; the most noticeable marks are around the rim of the unbound back, mostly on the bottom edge. There is what looks like a tape pull mark with some finish lost on the back and side of the cutaway bout, and a deep ding into the side of the neck around the 11th fret where it rests against the neck block in the case. An excellent player with a better neck angle than many with the typically distinctive sound of this model. Both original NY-made Franz pickups are very strong and the guitar easily shades from a sweet midrange to a snarling growl. A delightful example of perhaps Guild's finest original design, complete and original including a very nice brown OHSC. Excellent - Condition.
