Description

From our GuitarDesires brokerage client, here's a really nice 1962 Guild Starfire III in Cherry red, all original instrument in very good shape. Though the guitar has some neat relicing and a great aged mojo overall look, the finish is in surprisingly good shape and the frets and fretboard are really clean. Completely and utterly original and no issues other than the cool finish wear. Non original hardshell case.

This one was made in Hoboken, NJ, serial # 22146, cherry lacquer finish, Laminated mahogany body, mahogany neck, and rosewood fingerboard. This guitar mounts a pair of white-topped DeArmond pickups, the same units Gretsch famously used in the 1950s except for the differently colored plastic faceplate.

The pickguard is also the earlier style rounded-edge back-painted Lucite piece with a Guild logo and star emblem. Other fittings include individual Grover Sta-Tite openback tuners, transparent amber "G-logo" knobs and the proprietary Guild logo harp-shaped Bigsby introduced in 1961. The truss rod cover on the early "open-book" style headstock is a metal plate with the Starfire logo. The medium dark cherry finish body is faced with mahogany, with a triple-bound front and back.

Super rich woody resonant tone and sounds great in your lap unplugged and sweetly and cleanly plays all over the C/D shaped neck. Plugged in this baby just roars with a distinct voice and sounds amazing.

This model was extensively used by many mid-1960s groups including the Kinks, Beau Brummels, Music Machine, Dakotas, and many more, and was Guild's defining professional grade electric guitar.

This is a cool example for your collection with a great vibe and outstanding solid condition, killer tone, and a rare year.
