1966 Hagstrom Hagstrom 1 Baby Blue

Summary: This Hagstrom 1 is the 2 pickup version with baby blue tolex material on back and translucent blue material on top. These Swedish guitars were made to compete with the Fender Stratocaster but certainly sit in a category all their own with the big magnet single coil-pickups, slim neck and unique vibrato arm system. This one has just been setup by our in-house guitar tech and had some fretwork done as well as a new nut installed.

Body: The body construction is very unique on these vintage Hagstrom guitars. The back piece is wood with a blue tolex covering and the top is a separate piece screwed into the top via 6 large slotted screws visible from the top.

Neck: The bolt-on neck is a slim shape with black finish, 22 fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dots, bone nut, end of heel H-Bar truss rod adjustment, rectangle side “dots”, 24 ¾” scale length and 1 9/16” nut width and the famous H-Bar truss rod. The truss rod seems to be seized up because we could not get it to move – however, the neck is straight & it probably doesn’t need much of a truss rod adjustment the way it is.

Pickups/Hardware: 2 single coil pickups, volume knob, on/off switch for each, tone switch for tonal variation in each position and mute switch. The bridge is rosewood with height adjustment in the back, original Hagstrom vibrato unit with bar and open gear tuners with white buttons.

Cosmetics: There are a fair amount of chips in the paint on the neck, especially around the headstock. The headstock decal looks like it has been sanded off slightly, there are some small cracks in the tuning keys, there is some minor tarnishing on the hardware and various minor nicks, dings and scratches on the body and neck. It is also missing a screw in the vibrato unit and one of the ferrules on the back for the bridge height adjustment. The H-bar truss rod seems to be seized up or perhaps it is just very difficult to get it to show any movement but the neck is straight and the frets have just been leveled and dressed.

Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets have just been leveled and dressed and it has a new Graphtec nut. There is some subtle buzz around the first few frets but you can’t hear it through an amp.
