Up for sale, a 1960's Hagstrom Model I electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Manufactured in Sweden and featuring a vinyl covered back and molded acrylate top, this Model I has a sleek "tuxedo" appearance and a surprisingly wide tonal range via the two stock single coil pickups. Vaguely Strat-esque in its shape and featuring four two-way toggle switches, this Hagstrom boasts an on/off switch for each pickup as well as two tone switches (labeled Tone and Mute) which prominently sculpt the tone for everything from glassy twang to thick, bass heavy growl. The pickups are articulate and clear sounding, and the guitar has a pleasing, crisp acoustic voice as well, balancing well on a strap and weighing only 6lbs 14oz. We've had this Hagstrom professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with low, slinky action and fresh 10-46 strings.

The two-piece birch neck has a smooth gloss finish on the slender C profile, with gently sloping shoulders and a slab teak fretboard. Known as the "King Neck" for its slim, fast feel, this neck also has an adjustable truss rod which Hagstrom advertised as the "Expander Stretcher." The fretboard has both pearloid dots and small rectangular position markers on the side of the board, with original, slender fretwire that is in truly remarkable shape. The frets have been leveled and crowned in their lifetime and play cleanly up the neck, currently showing no notable wear. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width and on the headstock, the original Hagstrom decal is present with only minor wear. On the top edge of the headstock, the original "Made in Swede" waterslide decal is also partially intact, and the guitar also retains its original open back tuning machines with white oval buttons.

All of the electronics work as they should, the Master Volume knob turns smoothly without static, and all four switches engage reliably and without issue. The stock floating rosewood bridge with aluminum compensated saddle inserts allows for low, comfortable action, and also works well with the original Hagstrom vibrato unit. The acrylic top is in fantastic shape with no cracks or repairs and a reliably solid input jack (a true rarity). The vinyl on the back is also quite clean, but has shrunk a bit around the edges of the bass side body horn, which is purely cosmetic. Other light cosmetic wear of note includes a bit of surface patina on the tailpiece and pickup pole pieces, but overall this vintage Hagstrom is in great shape and plays very well!
