Up for sale, a 1954 Harmony Hawaiian Consolectric lap steel in excellent condition and in good working order. This rare console steel (officially model H20) was produced only from 1954-55, and this completely original example comes with the stock tripod legs. Designed as an amp-in-case lap steel, the Consolectric steel has a built-in Class A tube amplifier, boasting its original alnico 6" speaker. Modest in volume yet sweet and detailed in its tone, this steel is fitted with the original "hershey bar" pickup, for a tone that can be percussive, clear, and glassy. This pickup is the same style seen in the highly collectable H-44 model Harmony, and while the built-in amp delivers its five watts with aplomb, this pickup also excels when pushing a larger tube amp to the brink of overdrive!

The steel has a carved wooden top with a glossy black nitro lacquer finish. The graphics on the playing surface are surprisingly clean, and the pickup retains the original bridge cover with the "Harmony" logo. The stock open back tuning machines turn smoothly with their original white buttons, and the original cream cupcake knobs are present as well. Under the hood, the stock Centralab pots date to the 3rd week of 1954, and the original tone capacitor is present as well. In terms of the amplifier, it's stocked with a complete vintage tube set, including a 5Y3 rectifier, 6V6 power tube, and octal preamp tube. The stock alnico 6" speaker was manufactured by Quam-Nichols, and dates to the 34th week of 1954.

The original - as the '54 Harmony catalog describes - airflight-type weather-resistant tweed is intact, as is the original grillcloth and four latches that secure the steel to the amp. The tweed shows some moderate discoloration in spots and some fraying around the edges of the cabinet, but overall is in remarkably good shape. The stock leather handle is present as well.

Secured in a separate compartment inside the case, the three original aluminum console legs are present. These height adjustable legs screw into original flanges on the underside of the tweed cabinet and round out this very rare and complete amp and lap steel package.
