Harmony Stella H922 12-String 1963 | $875 | (v2127) At the height of the folk boom in the 60s, Harmony, in Chicago, produced guitars by the hundreds of thousands. Out of this pack emerged the H922, a twelve-fret, slot-head 12-string acoustic, many sporting the 'Stella' brand. These Harmony 12s were among the first 'wave' of 12-strings to reemerge during the post WWII 'folk boom'. Today they are a great value in the vintage market.

This example dates to 1963, based on the ink stamp inside the body, and is as clean an example as one could hope to find. All components appear original to the guitar, and it remains in overall excellent condition. The body is all solid birch, trimmed in white-painted binding, with a striking brown-yellow sunburst on top, back and sides (soon to become the H912 with a red/orange burst by mid-sixties). The neck is poplar, carved in a fairly flat 'D' profile. No factory pick guard on this example. The neck features a metal truss rod without an adjustment nut, which would appear a few years later. The body measures 15 1/4" across at the lower bout. Scale length is 25 1/4", the fingerboard is 2" wide at the nut, string spacing 2 3/8" across at the saddle.

There are no evident past repairs to the guitar. There is little evidence of playing wear and only a few minor nicks and dings keeping it from 'mint' condition. We recently reset the neck, installed a new saddle and leveled and dressed the frets.

The guitar plays extremely well with a smooth action and produces the bright, jangly sound that the H922 is known for. Nice guitar for country blues 12-string, or strum it for a 60s Folk vibe.

Comes with a soft case.
