Description

Manufactured in England in the 1970s, Hayman models sport a clear plastic logo imbedded into their headstocks that is instantly recognizable to fans of these rare and unique guitars. They also feature a distinctive smoked black plexiglass pickguard and black binding on both sides of the neck. This particular example is the 2020 model, which was a semi-hollow body model with dual F holes and two single coil pickups (neck and bridge). The natural finish is very interesting as the grain doesn’t quite match across the top (some is more yellowish whereas some has a grey-ish hue to it). The neck sports a maple finger board with black dot inlay. It measures about 1 9/16th” at the nut and has a 25 ½” scale. The electronics setup is nicer and simple, with the aforementioned dual single coil pickups controlled by individual volume and tone controls for each pickup and a 3-way selector switch on the upper horn. Another nice feature of the electronics is the easily accessible backplate which is not something often found on semi-hollow bodied guitars, making any necessary work on the potentiometers or output jack a breeze! The binding around the back of the body is starting to come apart at the seams of the inner curves, which seems like a common occurrence for these models. It’s a purely cosmetic issue that has no effect on the playability of the guitar. There’s some general playwear throughout the guitar but it is in very good cosmetic condition overall for the age of the guitar. The volume and tone knobs have been replaced with Tele-style chrome barrel knobs but otherwise the guitar looks to have retained its period-correct components. It has been setup by our in-house guitar tech and plays fantastically with low and comfortable action. It is heavy for a semi-hollow guitar, weighing in at just a hair over 9 lbs. Overall this Hayman is not only a unique and rare piece of guitar building history but also a great playing and sounding piece that is sure to stir up bouts of jealousy in your fellow strummers and pluckers! Includes original hard shell case.
