I bought this guitar years ago for and played her maybe 10 - 20 hours, if that. She has been kept in a clean, smoke free temperature and humidity controlled home.
Extremely rare Hensel Minerva, Artist acoustic guitar in excellent overall condition. In my opinion, every bit as good or better than similar Gibson models of the same time period. However, she could even improve with a bone string nut and saddle as the originals are a celluloid composition.
A quality made guitar, X-braced, 12 fretter, built of solid Canadian maple with a solid Canadian spruce top. Body bound front and back as is the neck and sound hole. All binding is in perfect condition. Mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.
Her body is 3 ½” deep at the bottom end and 2 7/8” deep at the top end (old fashioned slant top). Her scale length is 25”. Her body measures 14” across the lower bout and 9 ¾” across the upper bout. Her body is 19” tall. She is a very comfortable size!
Her Patent marked Kluson tuners look and function like new.
Straight neck, low action and little fret wear. There is some drop off at the fretboard tongue (the last 4-5 frets), as is usual with guitars of this period, but who can reach there and who plays there anyway? Finish is still beautiful after all these years.
Just look at that beautifully carved headstock. WOW!
Her gold foil label is perfectly intact inside and reads, “ARTIST, made expressly for the R.S. Williams & Sons Company Ltd. By Arthur Henshel“.
Arthur Hensel was a Canadian builder who hand built guitars in very limited quantities for the Toronto based R.S. Williams & Co from the 1920’s - the 1940‘s.
She has a beautiful bluesy tone, but will need a new set of strings. There is a loose back brace (easily to re-glue and does not affect sound. you can only tell by tapping on the guitar's back) I was going to replace her bridge saddle and string nut with bone ones and bought the blanks, but never got around to it so selling ABSOLUTELY AS IS at a bargain price!
Grab her while you can. SHE IS A RARE OFFERING!
She comes with her original slant top case in VG condition with its original leather covered handle still nicely intact.
Also included are her 3 dress-up tassels. 2 pink, one white. I believe that they were wrapped around the headstock and strap pin. They were in the case when I bought her.
An exceptional little guitar with a beautiful BIG tone at a super bargain price!
Here is a you tube demo of another nearly identical Hensel guitar:
