This Heritage Sweet 16 is from the year they introduced this popular model “1987”, 1/3rd of a century ago, when the recently formed Heritage Guitar Company was just beginning to catch on. The unique Sweet 16 certainly helped establish their archtop creds and many top players play & love them.
This particular 16 has been well played and exhibits lots of finish scratches, buckle rash & a few nicks & dings. Nothing of a structural nature and the beautiful woods are unscathed. We just PLEK’d the medium jumbo frets, there’s plenty fret wire remaining, and she plays superbly. It also, and most importantly, “sounds” great! Just a delight to play, and she looks quite good, with a measure of natural relic-ing.
The specs for this top of the Heritage line include: 25.5 inch scale length, which is quite rare for 16” instruments * 16” lower bout width *2.75” rim depth * 1-11/16th “ nut width * a medium beefy neck * Neck is 5 piece fancy flamed maple Ebony fingerboard with 20 JUST Plek’d medium jumbo frets * deluxe binding & inlays * solid carved hand graduated Sitka Spruce archtop * all solid back & rim of highly flamed maple * hand fitted full contact – inlaid Ebony bridge * bridge top was upgraded at some point to a compensated bone fixture that looks nice & sounds great * all Nitro finish * split block fingerboard inlays * floating humbucker with volume & tone controls on the hand bound & lacquered flamey maple pickguard and a nice Eastman fiberglass hardshell case.
