Description

Black tolex (technically made by Brymor Ltd.) with white piping and salt-and-pepper grille cloth, iconic brutalist HIWATT badge. Clean and original save for a pair of (extremely cool and great-sounding) 1975 yellow-frame Celestion G12/50 12” loudspeakers. The rather scarce and very desirable 4-input 2x12” combo version of the DR504, 50 watts (very conservatively) from a pair of EL34s, Partridge transformers, brilliant and normal channels with 2 inputs each, 3-band EQ and presence, individual volume controls and a master volume, although the master is more for setting the overall level when the channels are jumped than inducing preamp gain, although there’s a bit of that on tap. Huge, rich, articulate cleans with tremendous bass response, kept tight by the 14-ply Baltic birch cabinet, and a bracing, grindy distortion when cranked up that is instantly recognizable if you’ve ever heard “Live at Leeds”. Runs stably, sounds great, fully functional except for green standby light. Designed by Dave Reeves and built with a pathological degree of precision and cleanliness by Harry Joyce in Kingston upon Thames, England. Consigned, local pickup only.
