1960 HOPF Saturn 63 Sunburst, Good
The Hopf Saturn is where old meets new, taking a good amount from traditional German lutherie and marrying it with an eye towards the atomic age and outer space. Yep, it's a fully hollow archtop with a great looking vintage sunburst, totally covering in chrome and metal trim with a funky off-set body shape. And it all works! The coolest thing might be the clear plexi headstock overlay where the "Saturn 63" appears to be floating in it. This thing is a work of art!
The electronics are a funky set-up too. The small knob is the volume. The rotary next to it is a 4-position that seems to be wired for each pickup alone, and then the combos in and out of phase. The next rotary seems to be for tone caps but only one position seems to alter the sound. The output has been changed to a modern/regular 1/4" jack. The pickups are lower output single coils so there is some hum.
The guitar is light and the shape is very comfortable. The neck has a thinner nut width but a medium size overall. Plays nice with medium height action.
