Description

The recent Olson SJ that we had in stock was just so good and sold so quickly that we just had to invest in another. Offered here is a more recent Olson SJ, this one built in 2013.

The Olson SJ, or small jumbo, is a medium-sized instrument. It is just 15" wide at the lower bout and about the same size overall as an OM or 000. It has a 14-fret neck, a 25.35" string scale, a 1.75" nut width and 2.25" string spacing. This guitar sports a Western Red Cedar top with back and sides made of East Indian Rosewood, the tone wood combination most often requested on Jim's custom guitars. The neck is a five-piece laminated affair, another feature that Jim's guitars are known for. The neck has a sleek, low profile shape that is quite easy to navigate. This guitar was also ordered with an L.R. Baggs LB6 pickup system which was installed during the guitar's construction.

Compare the sound sample of this guitar to the Cedar and Koa Olson SJ which we recently sold and I think you will find that the tone of this guitar is just the slightest bit brighter, but similarly rich and vibrant, with lots of overtones. It can be played with ease and is set up with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" and 4/64" on the low and high E sides, respectively. To play and hear this instrument is to love it.

Like the last Olson SJ we had, this is also is a one-owner guitar, one that has been treated with utmost care and played sparingly. The guitar and the frets are near flawless and this instrument could easily be mistaken for new. It comes in an upgraded Olson/Mainstage Calton-style case, which is also in mint condition. It also comes with a standard Olson bone saddle, should you ever decide to deactivate or remove the L.R. Baggs electronics.

I'm not sure if this Olson is "better" than the example we recently sold, but it is easily it's equal and both remain the best acoustic guitars I have had the privilege to play. If you have the means, I strongly recommend this fabulous instrument. It will likely spoil you for anything else!
