NEW PRICE: SN DK 2821. K 2821. Friends, here is a Gibson-made 14” archtop marketed under the Kalamazoo brand, a depression-era line modestly claiming to be the “World’s Greatest Value”. The KG-21 is similar in size and positioning to the Gibson L-30 but built without a truss rod, making it light as a potato chip. This is a one-family guitar being sold by the son of the original owner. Mahogany back and sides are stained dark alongside a dark sunburst spruce top. The adjustable bridge and fingerboard are rosewood. The body is bound top and back, the celluloid pickguard is elevated. The neck is 14-frets clear of the body, unbound with simple dot position markers, bone nut and a domed peg head that comes to a point. The neck profile is classic Gibson V-shaped, quite familiar and comfortable. The guitar is in nice vintage condition. It was played for a long time and likely stored in its case for a long time. The finish is original and intact. There are light capo marks on the back of the neck, light to moderate nicks and playwear all around, and a small 4” side crack that is glued and stabilized. The action is medium. It has a nice punchy sound when chording and a great bluesy sound when fingerpicked. I've had my luthier set it up and dress the frets. It plays easily up and down the neck with medium-low action. Lots of mojo for the money.
