Description

Offered for your consideration is this SSC with Tier 2 grade top by Joe Knaggs. Knaggs Guitars was born in 2009 when Joe created the company after 25 years with PRS; many of those years as PRS' production manager. Joe knows high end guitars! While his years with PRS certainly influenced his work, Knaggs guitars are something completely different. You get incredible high quality like with a PRS, but Knaggs guitars have their own unique look, feel and vibe.

The SSC is named for guitarist and Knaggs endorsee Steve Stevens, the multi-talented artist who was looking for a Les Paul style instrument to call his own. This SSC has Mahogany body with a Tier 2 grade flamed Maple top in a finish Knaggs calls "Sunflower" sunburst. It has a 24.75" string scale like an LP. The 22 fret Mahogany neck has a great feeling 50's rounded carve with depth measurements of .90" at the first fret increasing to 1.00" at the 12th. It has a very dark Indian Rosewood fretboard with a 12" radius, jumbo frets and a 1-11/16" bone nut. The pickups are Bareknuckle humbuckers paired with 2 volume and 2 tone controls and a 3-way toggle. It has cool fretboard and headstock inlays and excellent Kluson tuners. This beautiful guitar has a total weight of just 8 pounds, 1 ounce and is nicely balanced when strapped on. It is setup low and buzz free.

I was really impressed when I fired this baby up. It is lively and resonant and plays as smooth as silk. The PRS genetics are clear, but this guitar has a vibe that reminds me somewhat of an Orca 59 by Nik Huber, another very high quality Les Paul style instrument. The tone is superb too; just check out the brief sound sample provided. These Bareknuckle pickups are wound just right for my tastes.

This original owner of this guitar is fortunate to have so many instruments that this fine instrument hasn't seem much of any play time. It remains in near mint condition with no flaws of any significance, frets included! It comes in its original Knaggs logo case, also in near mint condition, along with all the original paperwork.

The Knaggs model line has been reconfigured since this early 2016 SSC was built (serial no. 53), but a comparable new model would cost you around $5K today. Get this near mint 2016 SSC for $1,500 less. If you like Les Paul style guitars, you will likely love this Knaggs SSC. I highly recommend this wonderful electric!
