Description

This guitar was assembled in my shop from Martin parts, essentially as an instrument of opportunity presented by the availability of a factory assembled body that I purchased at the Guitarmaker's Connection back in 2005. I bought the body at Martin, did the binding and purfling on the body, assembled and carved the neck, did the finish work and final assembly. The body is a 12 fret D with spruce top and hybrid X/A bracing. The top and back are bound in ivoroid, the top has herringbone purfling and a single ring rosette of abalone. The neck is a mortise and tenon joint type, mahogany with ebony board and diamonds and squares position markers, adjustable truss rod. The guitar's first owner was a touring Celtic guitarist who put a lot of miles on the guitar, and though the cosmetic condition of the instrument is good there are two repaired top cracks below the bridge and there are several short repaired side cracks ("key cracks") on the treble side. The nut width is 1 3/4" and the pin spacing 2 5/16". The neck angle is good and the top flat. The action is set at 6/64" at the low E 12th fret and 5/64" at the high E with plenty of saddle. Big voice, loud and articulate. Good flat picker. The guitar has an LR Baggs I-Beam pickup installed with on-board volume control. Comes with a gig bag. $1200
