Description

This wonderful D-03-12 dreadnought guitar is a substantial upgrade from the Larrivee D-02 dreadnoughts, with an MSRP of over $1500, but its superiority is in the quality of its woods and design rather than flashy inlays. The solid mahogany of the D-03-12 is a tonewood which most players feel delivers a bit more punch than rosewood. Its power is a really good match to the Larrivee design, which is inherently bright.

The Larrivee D-03-12 is a dreadnought style 12-string guitar with a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, and a solid mahogany neck and headstock. The body top and back are fully bound, and it has a clear pick guard, a tusq nut and saddle, an ebony bridge with black white-dot pins, and a multi-stripe inlaid rosette. The bound 14/20-fret ebony fingerboard with pearl microdot inlay ends in a dark ebony headstock veneer with three-per-side enclosed chrome Larrivee tuners and the Larrivee logo. The action is fast and smooth at 3/32” at the 12th fret low E—terrific for a 12-string!--and the sound is beautifully balanced and resonant.

As the pictures indicate, structurally this particular D-03-12 is in very good playing condition. However, at some time or other it suffered two cracks in the treble side, long since professionally repaired, but still faintly visible in one or two of the pictures. In addition, there is a repaired hairline crack barely visible on the treble side of the headstock, the expected small dings and dents in the top, and I think there is a small repaired spot in the binding. It is now totally checked out and set up, and it has a straight neck, a flat top, and relatively little fret wear in the first three frets. The Tusq nut and the compensated saddle have been adjusted, and I must say it performs like a dream.

This particular guitar has been dominating lesser instruments for some years—the serial number is 030352, but only Larrivee can tell what year that indicates, and they’re not answering the phone. Regardless, the resonance of its tonewoods will only improve with each new generation of players. Its classic good looks still make it stand out in a crowd, but it’s the purity of the Larrivee sound that will make other musicians turn around to check it out.

The included hard shell case is from Canada and may or may not be original, but it has almost no dings or bruises in the vinyl, and the soft black plush lining is clean and intact. All the hardware is working perfectly; structurally it is solid as a rock. It is an excellent complement for this fine guitar—and of course it offers outstanding protection.

Buyer pays a flat rate of $55 for insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. Payment by Paypal is preferred; cashiers and personal checks are acceptable, but checks must clear before the guitar will be shipped.

I have made every effort to describe and illustrate this guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. Its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please check out the pictures and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy this cool instrument.

Thanks.

Payments by Paypal, cashier’s checks, money orders, or personal checks are acceptable, but all payments must clear my bank before the guitar will be shipped. I will CONSIDER reasonable offers, even including installment payments and trade-ins, but generally since I already attempt to price my guitars very competitively, unusual deals must be unusually sweet.

From henceforth [that's how retired English teachers talk], insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states is $55 due to constantly rising shipping costs unless a specific listing says otherwise; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. I have sold guitars to Russia, Japan, Australia, and over 50 other countries, as well as almost every state in the USA. Since some of my guitars travel thousands of miles, I take care to use lots of packing materials, protect the neck inside the case, and of course de-tune the strings.

I make every effort to describe and illustrate each guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. However, many of my instruments are well-played vintage items which are many years old, and I am not a luthier. One should assume that any guitar will require some set-up to satisfy your personal requirements, and that not every flaw or ding will be seen/recognized/described in the listing. Thus the return of an instrument will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please read the listing carefully, check out the pictures, and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy.
