I recently attended a guitar show in Tacoma, Washington. I not only had the pleasure of spending the weekend with my wife, catching up with old friends and new ones, I also grabbed some cool guitars. This one is no exception.

At the end of the show I finally took a look around at the custom builder's booths. Wesley at Lewallen had offered some end-of-show pricing on his stunning and unique guitars. I couldn't help myself! The end of the show was looming, and my wife was going to head to the airport to catch her flight home, so I grabbed this guitar from Wesley without plugging it in. I could tell it was going to be great by the feel, so it was an easy leap of faith.

My thoughts on the guitar were affirmed when I got home. This guitar is sweet! The fit and finish are impeccable, and the unique wood selection is not only beautiful, it sounds amazing!

Don't let the body shape fool you - it is great when played sitting or standing. The body is semi hollow, so it is light and resonant, weighing in at just 7.2 pounds. The setup is perfect.

There is a lot of tonal flexibility here - there's a three way Strat style switch, and both pots pull to tap either humbucker individually. You get up to 8 different tones, with the middle switch position being the most flexible: two humbuckers, single coil neck/bridge humbucker, single coil bridge/neck humbucker, or two single coils. Great stuff!

The sustainable wood selection is refreshing, and there is no compromise in the look and feel. The figured poplar top, back and neck are gorgeous, Sandwiched between the top and back is a layer of Sapele (African mahogany), and the Bocote neck is new to me but has the look of Wenge, and it feels sweet!

Rounding out the package is a nice Gator case. See Lewallen's website at https://www.lewallenguitars.net/
