Description

Maingard GC cutaway Guitar (2010)

  • Handmade in South Africa by Marc Maingard, luthier extraordinaire!
  • Spectacular 45 year old Cocobolo back & sides
  • Cedar Top; And not just Any Cedar top. We learned from Marc that this is Italian Cedar, as opposed to Western Red Cedar. And that Italian Cedar is much more stiff. It also produces better note separation. This Cedar grows in the Alps, so in reality it is Alpine Cedar. It's like the difference between USA Sitka spruce or Alpine Spruce. It grows more slowly; It's altogether better. It will grow beautifully into a very balanced, yet always warm sounding guitar.
  • Tribal Ndebele triangle pattern rosette in Maple & Ebony
  • Corresponding Maple top trim with fine red purflings adjacent
  • These fine red purflings are used tastefully on the sides, back, headstock and detailed endgraft
  • Ebony fretboard; Hand-carved Ebony bridge with Ebony pins/abalone dots
  • Macassar Ebony body bindings as well as Top & Back BEVELS
  • CocoBolo headstock front and back plates
  • Marc's signature hand-carved headstock profile with MOP logo
  • Gold Waverly tuning machines with Ebony buttons
  • Patented, multi-layered, inlayed heelcap -- very handsome
  • This guitar is really suprising. The bass is clear and full and the trebles solid. It is crazy responsive
  • Near mint condition
