Description

Offered here is perhaps the cleanest 1969 Martin 0-16NY in existence. Built between 1961 and 1992, the 0-16NY is an iconic model. It's small body and big voice made it a favorite of folk artists Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell and it was later used by Ian Anderson on various Jethro Tull albums beginning with their 1971 Aqualung release.

The 0-16NY is a lightly braced 12-fret model, so either nylon or very light gauge steel strings are recommended. It has a Sitka Spruce top and solid Mahogany back, sides and neck, with Brazilian Rosewood used for the fingerboard, headstock overlay and bridge. This guitar has a short 24.9" string scale, a 1 7/8" bone nut and 2 1/4" string spacing.

The tone of this guitar is magical. Listen to the provided sound sample and I think you will agree. The playability is superb too, with 12th fret string heights of 5/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side. It is currently setup with Elixir 80/20 light gauge strings.

I obtained this instrument from the original owner who, as evidenced by the included original purchase receipt, bought the guitar new in 1970. The original owner meticulously maintained this guitar and kept all paperwork of any significance. The original Martin hang tags are also included, as are the receipts for the neck reset the guitar received in 2007.

The condition of this guitar is remarkable. I've owned a couple of these and have played several more and none was in anywhere as nice condition as this instrument. A few rough spots around the edges of the body and a small indentation around the fifth fret are the only flaws of any significance (see photos). Most guitars of this vintage are sorely in need of any expensive neck reset, but this guitar has already had that issue corrected and it plays like a new instrument. Even the original frets are in amazing condition. It comes in a much newer and much nicer hardshell case which protects this beauty much better than the chipboard cases they originally came in.

This guitar is priced reasonably given it's exceptional condition. Play it a bit and it will quickly become your favorite daily player. A superb vintage Martin and a touch of Martin guitar history at an affordable price. Make it yours!
