Description

For the Martin fans out there, here is something very, very special. Offered is this 1925 Martin 0-18K which just received a near complete restoration by the folks of C.F. Martin & Co. The result is a (mostly) original, pre-war era Martin acoustic that plays like a new guitar, but sounds, looks and feels like the authentic vintage guitar that it is!

The 0-18K is a short scale (24.9"), 12-fret clear guitar with a Mahogany neck and a body made completely out of Koa. It has a 1.78" Ebony nut and a bone saddle with 2-3/8" string spacing. The neck is a relatively thin soft V-shape; this guitar's neck depth measures .796" at the first fret and .918" at the ninth. It has an Ebony fretboard and bridge. The body is just 19-1/8" long and the lower bout just 13-1/2" wide.

Earlier this year (March, 2021), the prior owner gave the Martin factory authorization to give this guitar "everything it needed." As the picutured documentation indicates, the guitar received: 1) a neck reset; 2) a new Ebony bridge and pins; 3) new frets; 4) new Ebony nut; 5) a complete setup; and 6) and repaired various cracks and other cosmetic issues. A total of $2,200 was invested in this restoration, not counting the cost of the fabulous Hoffee carbon fiber case it now resides in!

Pick this up and some of your senses tell you this is a precious antique, yet others tell you this is a new guitar. It looks vintage but plays new. The voice is pure vintage, but with the sonic improvements that a neck reset, new frets and modern string technology allows. This guitar is setup with light gauge strings and a 12th fret string height of 6/64" on the low side and 4/64" on the high side; just like a new instrument and it plays accordingly, with great ease. Check out the brief sound sample below. The tone is vintage Martin and incredible, something you can only get from a nearly century old instrument. I've also attached a video of another, similarly-aged 0-18K demonstrated by somebody who can really can play.

This guitar shows quite a bit of wear and tear of course, but folks at Martin have made it look great without taking away the vintage vibe. It comes to the new owner in a fabulous Hoffee case so that this guitar can survive and be played and enjoyed for another century. A one-time, one of a kind opportunity here folks!
