Description

I wish I could tell you how much fun it is just to hold this miniature gem—it feels like you’re holding a Stradivarius violin. Its MSRP is now almost $3800—not quite the strad level, but certainly a very valuable instrument. The X-braced top is of course solid select Sitka Spruce, while the back and sides of its Grand Concert 00 body are solid East Indian Rosewood, all gloss finished. The body is fully bound, and the rosette’s 28-style ring pattern is inlaid around the sound hole as well. The 14/20-fret fingerboard and the bridge are ebony, while the rosewood-overlaid mahogany headstock has three-per-side nickel open-gear tuners with nickel butterbean knobs.

A few more spec details from the Martin site: the neck is Martin’s modified low oval shape, with a high performance taper and a dovetail neck joint. The scale length is 24.9” and the bone nut is 1.75” wide. The braces are fully scalloped to ensure maximum sensitivity with light weight, and the saddle is also bone. Obviously the Martin 00-28 is the first cousin of the iconic D-28, and as might be expected of its beautiful tonewoods, it plays exceptionally well, with a huge volume for such a small instrument. The action is set up at a hair over 3/32” at the 12th fret low E to allow for aggressive strumming as well as the finger-picking at which it excels.

While this particular 00-28’s serial number (2064003) indicates that it was made in late 2016, it is essentially New Old Stock and is in near mint condition, including the original hang tags.

The included original Martin hard shell case is also in excellent shape, and it obviously fits the smaller Martin body perfectly. It has a hang tag also, and as one might expect, the latches and hinges work perfectly, and the interior plush lining is unworn, with no discoloration or odor except “new.” It is a solid constructed case, and it offers excellent protection for this valuable instrument.

Buyer pays a flat rate of $55 for insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. Payment by Paypal is preferred; cashier’s checks are acceptable, but checks must clear before the guitar will be shipped.

I have tried to be perfectly clear and accurate in describing this instrument, so its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please check out the pictures and ask any questions you might have before bidding.

Thank you for your interest in this excellent Martin guitar.

Payments by Paypal, cashier’s checks, money orders, or personal checks are acceptable, but all payments must clear my bank before the guitar will be shipped. I will CONSIDER reasonable offers, even including installment payments and trade-ins, but generally since I already attempt to price my guitars very competitively, unusual deals must be unusually sweet.

From henceforth [that's how retired English teachers talk], insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states is $55 due to constantly rising shipping costs unless a specific listing says otherwise; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. I have sold guitars to Russia, Japan, Australia, and over 50 other countries, as well as almost every state in the USA. Since some of my guitars travel thousands of miles, I take care to use lots of packing materials, protect the neck inside the case, and of course de-tune the strings.

I make every effort to describe and illustrate each guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. However, many of my instruments are well-played vintage items which are many years old, and I am not a luthier. One should assume that any guitar will require some set-up to satisfy your personal requirements, and that not every flaw or ding will be seen/recognized/described in the listing. Thus the return of an instrument will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please read the listing carefully, check out the pictures, and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy.
