Description

C. F. Martin 000-28 1967 | $7995 | (vbg# 1825) The 000-28 has been around since the last quarter of the ninteenth century. It was produced in modest numbers until the 1950s and early 1960s when production slowed. In fact, zero were made in 1963 and only three in 1964. But the next year 176 were made, likely a response to the folk-rock burgeoning in pop music at the time. In 1967, the year of this particular guitars production, 250 were made. This was the end of the line for the small maple bridge plate, and Brazilian rosewood, both found on this guitar.

This 000 sports a spruce top, bound in layers of w/b binding. Back and sides are beautiful Brazilian rosewood with a strip of fancy marquetry inlaid down the center seam. The neck is mahogany capped with ebony. The head is faced with Brazilian veneer. Tuners are enclosed Grover.

The body measures 15 1/8" across at the lower bout, and scale length is 25 1/4". 1 11/16" across at the nut, and string spacing is 2 5/32" across at the saddle.

Past repairs include a replacement ebony bridge, refret, and repaired 'pick guard crack' and a replaced pick guard. We recently reset the neck, glued and cleated a back crack, and refretted the board. A small section of binding in the waist was re-glued. Structurally, the guitar is very sound, including the thin maple bridge plate. The finish is original, and has a nice as-new sparkle with only minor nicks here and there, and some dulling from skin contact over the bass side (could likely be polished out).

The sound is the classic and coveted Martin 'ring', rich and loud, with plenty of complex overtones and sustain that come with Brazilian-bodied Martins.

Comes with a hard case.
