If you’ve been looking for the very, very best in nylon-string Martins, you’ve just found it. The 000-28G is as rare as they come, only seventeen having been made, between 1937 and 1950, with a few having gone to a Canadian distributor in the late 1940s; this is one of those. It is similar to their 00-28G of the day but larger, and it’s a most wonderful guitar. The body shape and size is the same as Martin’s 14-fret 000-size steel string models, but it has a 12-fret classical neck and it is braced for and strung with nylon strings. Over the years I’ve only seen two or three of these surface, and always in so-so to unfortunate condition; this one is ultra-clean, near perfect. No cracks, no repairs or alterations of any kind ever, still shiny overall with only a wee bit of playing wear showing and that’s it. This Martin came to me about fifteen years ago, I sold it, and it is now back to me. The action is just as it was when we set it up then; the sound is quite amazing, by far the loudest and deepest, clearest-sounding nylon-string Martin I’ve ever played, and the trebles and mids sing right out to match. You will not find another of these in this condition anywhere, and the price is extraordinarily attractive. $5995 w/hsc
