Description

Offered here is a fabulous Martin 000-42 Authentic 1939 VTS built in 2016. This model is an Authentic Series reproduction of a near priceless pre-war 000-42 housed in the Martin Museum. Martin has meticulously replicated the vintage 1939 guitar to the extent practical and the result is truly impressive.

This guitar is an Auditorium-sized (000), short scale (24.9") instrument and utilizes hide glue construction. It has a premium grade Adirondack Spruce top thinned to pre-war specifications and has received Martin's proprietary VTS torrefication process. The back and sides are made from premium grade Madagascar Rosewood rather than Brazilian to keep the price affordable. The bracing and the bridge plate have also been modified to vintage specs. It has a hand-shaped vintage V-style Mahogany neck with depth measurements of .86" at the first fret and 1.00" at the 9th fret. It has a bone nut measuring 1-11/16". The black Ebony fretboard has a 16" radius and features unique and historically accurate Abalone inlays which start at the fifth fret. It has a vintage style Ebony belly bridge with a glued-in long saddle and 2-1/8" string spacing. The guitar uses unique closed back tuners with updated ratios which were created specifically for this model. The fancy but tasteful cosmetics too are accurate to the original and the guitar is finished with extra thin gloss lacquer.

This guitar is impressive even before you pick it up. I find it to be one of the most beautiful traditional style guitars ever made. It plays as good as it looks too. It is nearly effortless to play and is set up with light gauge strings and 9th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side. While called a "vintage V", the neck shape feels quite similar to Martin's Modified V and is quite comfortable to play.

This is an incredibly resonant instrument and the tone is rich and shimmery with lots of depth, clarity and overtones. Picked or strummed, it is very responsive to your level of attack. Treated with Martin's Vintage Tone System, it has a tone character which is much more "mature" than it's actual age. Listen carefully to the brief sound sample provided and I think you will agree that this is a beautifully voiced guitar.

This 2016 model guitar is in near mint condition with only the slightest evidence of play and handling in the thin clear coat finish and this evidence can only be seen under very strong lighting and at certain angles. The frets show no observable wear and even the pickguard is quite clean. It comes in it's original premium Geib-style case, also in near mint condition.

This model has a list price of $15K and a MAP price of $11,699. Get this fabulous and near mint instrument at a far more bearable price. One of the finest guitars Martin currently manufactures. Make it yours today!
