Description

Offered here is an elegant 00-12 fret from the Martin Custom Shop and built in 2011. This is a very special, one-of-a-kind small bodied instrument designed for fingerstyle or flat picking play.

This lovely little instrument has an Engelmann Spruce top and back and sides made from highly figured Koa. It has a Low Profile shaped 12-fret neck made of figured Spanish Cedar. It's cosmetics include herringbone trim and rosette, Madagascar Rosewood binding and figured Koa for the slotted headstock overlay and end piece. It has a 24.9" string scale combined with a Venetian cutaway for upper fret access. It has an Ebony fretboard with a 1-3/4" bone nut. It has a striped Ebony pyramid bridge with 2-1/4" string spacing. The tuners are fancy engraved Waverlys with Ebony buttons.

This is one beautiful instrument. It's beauty is much more than skin deep, however. It is superbly setup with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side and it plays with great ease. It has perhaps the best combination of features in that you get the sonic benefits of the 12 fret geometry, the playing ease of a the short scale and the upper fret access provided by the cutaway. The tone is quite pleasing as well. It has a voice that is a very nice balance of clarity and warmth and it is responsive and suprisingly powerful for such a small instrument. Please listen to the brief sound sample provided and I trust you will concur.

This guitar's cosmetic condition is very good, but certainly not perfect. It shows a couple of tiny dings on the top and a series of tiny shirt button impressions on the back which I have done by best to photograph. These imperfections are very difficult to see and otherwise the guitar is in superb condition. The frets show no observable wear.

The guitar comes in it's original custom shop case with the protective shroud and much of the original documention. It comes with white bridge pins installed, but the original black pins are included as well. A new guitar with these specification would cost you approximately $8K and a significant wait to comission. Because of the aforementioned cosmetic flaws, this guitar can be yours for just slightly more than half that sum.

This is a unique and beautiful looking and sounding instrument that is a joy to play and hear. Make this spectacular little guitar yours today!
